It’s hard to believe we’re writing this again after last year, but It is with extremely heavy hearts that we must postpone this year's Westival until next summer (21- 25 JULY 2022). The good news is; we’re still bringing all of the artists we had planned for this year (and last year) along with us. After all this we can assure it’s going to be one heck of a party.
We have been doing everything possible to try and avoid arriving at this decision, working closely with our amazing suppliers, artists and partners to delay timelines for as long as possible. However, being a completely independent festival, this makes it very hard to continue with the knowledge that there is no Government-backed COVID-19 insurance in place, combined with the latest guidance from the Welsh government that they have no intention of relaxing social distancing measures anytime soon.
With just over 4 weeks until the start date, the financial risk is just too high to delay this any further. If we were to proceed and have to make this decision a few weeks down the line, this would kill the festival and we can not let that happen. Government-backed insurance has been announced in other places around Europe, but unfortunately, this sort of scheme is yet to be announced for the UK. Without a clear plan on how to operate, and no specific events cancellation insurance in place, the financial risk is just too great, and we may be in danger of losing the festival forever. Apologies to anyone who feels that this announcement is overdue, we wanted to give ourselves the best possible chance of going ahead by delaying this decision as long as possible.
Earlier in the year when the English Government announced their initial roadmap, we were filled with great hope and confidence that the Welsh Government would follow suit and we proceeded with organising the festival. The support you showed was absolutely amazing, resulting in the vast majority of tickets being snapped up in just a couple of days. This meant the world to us and we can not thank you enough. We have explored every possible avenue to make Westival happen this year, but unfortunately, time is up. We are distraught to have to make this decision for the second year running but we just don’t have any other option.
Now more than ever, we are asking you to stand by Westival once more and transfer your ticket to 2022. We would love to say that by postponing to next year everything is nice and easy, because unfortunately, this is not the case. This leaves us with some financial uncertainty. Our main aim is longevity; we’ve worked extremely hard over the last few years to bring something new and different to our home county. This could never have been done without all of your support, so a massive thanks to all of you. However, now is when we need your support the most.
If you’ve attended Westival before, you’ll understand the immense sense of community and intimacy, with every guest feeling like part of an extended family, and now we need to remember that feeling more than ever to try and come together and move forwards. The support from every single person who transferred their ticket over from last year allowed us to to continue operating.
Everyone who purchased a ticket for 2021 will have their ticket automatically transferred to 2022. No further action is required to rollover your ticket. If, however, you can’t join us in 2022, then you are of course entitled to a refund. Please think carefully about choosing a refund, as it’s important to note that given the demand for Westival this year, and the fact that it’s already sold out, the demand for next year’s event will only increase further again. However, we understand this is a tough time for all of us, so if you wish for a refund please email firstname.lastname@example.org, before 05 JUL 2021, and we’ll get back to you with more information. Please expect a delay in our response whilst we get through emails.
We want to say a massive thank you to our artists, suppliers, partners, ticket buyers, and everyone who has showed to support to Westival in any way, especially over the last two years when times have been extremely tough.
We can’t wait to welcome you back into our beautiful Pembrokeshire home next Summer.
Huge love & most importantly, stay West.
